May is Mental Health Awareness Month: Let’s Talk About Emotional Wellness
May is Mental Health Awareness Month—a great time to check in on more than just grades.
Academic success is important, but so is your child’s emotional wellness. In fact, mental health and learning go hand in hand. When kids feel safe, supported, and understood, they learn better, take more risks, and feel more confident.
Here are 3 simple ways to support your child's emotional health:
1. Start a Daily Feelings Check-In
Use a chart, journal, or just dinner conversation. Ask:
What was your high and low today?
What do you need from me this week?
Did anything make you feel anxious or proud today?
2. Teach Simple Coping Tools
Deep breathing (smell the flower, blow out the candle!)
Use coloring books or puzzles as a mindfulness tool
Create a calm-down corner with headphones, books, and sensory toys
3. Make Space for Stillness
Try mindfulness apps like Smiling Mind or Headspace for Kids
Try guided meditations or bedtime body scans
Go for phone-free nature walks
Did you know? According to the CDC, 1 in 6 U.S. children ages 6–17 experience a mental health disorder each year. Yet many go without adequate support.
Let’s help change that—starting in our homes. By prioritizing emotional well-being alongside academics, we’re not just raising students—we’re raising resilient, self-aware humans who are better equipped to navigate life’s ups and downs.
If you’re looking for thoughtful, research-based support to help your child build both emotional resilience and academic confidence, we’re here to walk alongside you. From executive functioning coaching to SEL-infused tutoring, our programs are built for the whole child.
Let’s create a game plan that empowers your child to thrive—inside and outside the classroom.
